Revitalising Riverhead Skatepark with FLOW’s Innovative, Cost-Effective Features
The Riverhead Skatepark redevelopment at Riverhead War Memorial Park showcases FLOW's commitment to designing versatile skate environments that align with community aesthetics and meet budgetary goals. In partnership with RICH Landscapes, FLOW has implemented a range of dynamic, modular features that offer both accessibility and progression for skaters of all levels while remaining cost-efficient.
FLOW Features: Purposeful Design and Cost-Effective Solutions
For Riverhead Skatepark, FLOW provided a collection of skate features optimised for ease of installation and functionality. FLOW’s product line—featuring a skateable stair unit, wollie bank and ledge, bank to ledge, learner ledge, rollovers, grind rail, skate kerbs, and kicker—was selected to maximise skating options while minimising construction costs. Each piece supports skill progression and keeps the park engaging for all levels, from newcomers to experienced skaters.
A Fusion of Art and Skate Culture
Bringing an artistic element into the skatepark, renowned artist Levi Hawken’s sculpture will be installed near the kicker. This unique piece will serve as both a functional skate element and an artistic landmark, reflecting the local culture and enhancing the skatepark’s visual appeal. By working with art in the skatepark, FLOW contributes to creating a space that resonates with the community’s identity and serves as a cultural touchstone.
Enhancing Aesthetic Continuity and Community Connection
FLOW’s resurfacing techniques draw inspiration from the wetpour safety surfacing of the nearby playground, ensuring the skatepark complements Riverhead War Memorial Park’s cohesive design aesthetic. This approach merges visual appeal with practical durability, blending modern skatepark functionality with the welcoming design of the adjacent playground.
With the Riverhead Skatepark redevelopment, FLOW is proud to support Auckland Council’s vision by delivering a versatile, community-focused environment that balances functionality, sustainability, and local artistry. The result is a skate destination designed for enjoyment by skaters of all ages and abilities—a landmark that enriches the Riverhead community and offers an exciting, safe place to skate.
