Logan Carr Reserve Skatepark Extension Nearing Completion
Our Logan Carr Reserve skatepark extension is nearing completion, bringing together new concrete terrain, timber quarterpipes, prefabricated skate features, corten steel and a custom FLOW Resurfacing treatment.
Delivered as a design and build project for Auckland Council, the project began with a design brief developed through community consultation. FLOW worked from this brief to develop the detailed skatepark design, refine the features and connections, and deliver the project through construction.
New concrete terrain includes an extended skate slab, hip and variable-height bank, adding new lines and opportunities for progression. Timber quarterpipes and a selection of FLOW prefabricated skate features have also been incorporated to create a broader mix of street and transition terrain.
One of the most visible parts of the transformation has been the resurfacing of the existing concrete slab using our FLOW Resurfacing product. While honing the existing slab was considered, the existing sawcut pattern presented an opportunity to incorporate colour and pattern into the design. Using the sawcuts as the framework, we developed a geometric treatment in warm ochre and earthy tones that refreshes the existing concrete while complementing the corten steel elements throughout the park.
The project brings together a varied material palette including concrete, timber, corten steel, galvanised steel and granite, with new landscaping and seating helping integrate the extension into the wider reserve.
There are still a few elements to come, including the granite skate kerbs and shelter, so we'll be back with final photography once everything is in place.
