The Lumsden Skatepark Redevelopment was a part of a comprehensive redevelopment of the community playground and skatepark undertaken by the Southland District Council. FLOW was engaged to provide wheeled play features for the new environment, and included expert knowledge from our lead designer Richard Smith, to give guidance on how the park could be redeveloped cost effectively. Richard proposed honing the existing concrete slab and densifying and sealing, and extending the skatepark in such a way to accommodate the new elements. The new elements included:
- FLOW Pole Jam: An integral feature of skateboarding that allows users to hit the bent rail and ride up and over it
- FLOW Mixed Grain Bread Skate Kerb: This feature is a beginner-friendly feature that imitates a street kerb, specifically designed for grind tricks and a variety of flatland-based pla. The FLOW Mixed Grain Bread Profile has a rounded top, perfect to promote an increased level of balance for grinds while providing easy access to perform slides and slaps
- FLOW Manual Box and Wollie Ledge Combo: This combo feature is both our wollie ledge and kerb manual pad combined and has been built for a variety of wheeled-play opportunities whilst designed to accommodate varying skill levels. Fabricated in Corten steel this feature inspires elevated play and can be used for grinds, manuals, drops, slappies and slides.
The completed environment, easily installed by local contractors, has been a hit with the local users and has rejuvenated the tired environment while making the best use of the space available at a great price.
